Affordable housing crisis deepens: New study highlights stark national disparities

A recent study has shed light on the growing housing affordability crisis, revealing that the income required to purchase a medianpriced home in the United States has surged by 50% since the beginning of the COVID19 pandemic.

As of today, Americans now need an annual income of about 117,000 to qualify for a mortgage on a medianpriced homea dramatic increase from prepandemic levels.

We found, no surprise, that the housing affordability squeeze keeps tightening, said Jeff Ostrowski, an analyst with Bankrate.com, which just released the results of its study.
