Indianapolis would get longawaited road funding boost if governor signs newly passed bill

Indianapolis could get a big boost to its road funding after lawmakers passed a bill that reworks how some of the money is distributed.

Under current Indiana law, road funding is based on how long roads are. That means roads with just a few lanes often get the same funding as roads with many lanes.

House Enrolled Act 1461 (HEA 1461) changes that, at least for some road funding.

The bill, which advanced to the governors desk on April 17, contains many changes to how Indiana funds road work.
