Amazon has put in a bid to purchase TikTok, a Trump administration official said Wednesday, in an eleventhhour pitch as a U.S. ban on the platform is set to go into effect Saturday.
The official, who was not authorized to comment publicly and spoke on the condition of anonymity, said the Amazon offer was made in a letter to Vice President JD Vance and Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick.
Under the law, TikToks Chineseowned parent company ByteDance is required to sell the platform to an approved buyer or take it offline in the United States. Trump has suggested he could further extend the pause on the ban, but he has also said he expects a deal to be forged by Saturday.

It was a stormy evening yesterday, but the rain and thunderstorms are gone, for now…
We had likely tornado damage stretching from Brownsburg to Eagle Creek to Carmel, with additional damage in Madison and Delaware counties. Plus, we have a lot of straight line wind damage across the state. As of 2 a.m., there were over 165,000 power outages across Indiana.
Surveys will begin today from the National Weather Service.
We have a few hours of dry, quiet weather for cleanup before more rain chances move in. We have a flood watch in effect across all of central Indiana until 8 a.m. Sunday.
