The man convicted in the deadly shooting of his exgirlfriend outside a west Indianapolis day care on Sept. 16, 2022, has just been sentenced to 66 years.

A few weeks before the sentencing, a jury found Orlando Mitchell guilty of murder and invasion of privacy, violating a protective order.

Krystal Walton had just dropped off her then1yearold son when she was shot and killed outside the Charity Child Care at 10th Street and Holmes Avenue. Mitchell is the childs father, and Walton had a protective order against Mitchell.

Today, we are grateful to the jury for returning this verdict, and although Krystal is no longer here, her family and children will carry on in her memory with the same resilience and grace as Krystal, as such a loving mother would have wanted them to, Marion County Prosecutor Ryan Mears said in a statement following the guilty verdict.

It is April Fools Day but believe us when we say, we have a number of changes on the way in the weather in Indiana.

Today, for the Indianapolis Indians game, it will be seasonably cool with a high of 57.

Even though today is nice, tomorrow is a day of change. Look for some rain in the morning, but strong to severe storms are possible tomorrow afternoon and evening into early Thursday morning.

The Storm Prediction Center has Indy under a more enhanced chance for severe weather with the biggest threats being damaging winds, flooding rain, lightning, hail and the possibility of tornadoes. We are calling tomorrow a Weather Impact Alert Day.

A 16yearold was arrested Monday and is facing a murder charge in a fatal shooting on Indianapolis near west side in January, IMPD announced Tuesday morning.

The shooting happened around 3:30 a.m. Monday, Jan. 20 in the 200 block of North Warman Avenue, near West Washington Street.

Responding officers found 37yearold Rodney Nixon Jr. in the hallway of an apartment building with gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police previously said there was some type of disturbance leading up to the shooting, and a person of interest had been detained before being released pending further investigation. Multiple guns were found at the scene and taken as evidence.
