Tariff exemptions announced Friday on electronics like smartphones and laptops are only a temporary reprieve until the Trump administration develops a new tariff approach specific to the semiconductor industry, U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick said Sunday.
White House officials, including President Donald Trump himself, spent Sunday downplaying the significance of exemptions that lessen but wont eliminate the effect of U.S. tariffs on imports of popular consumer devices and their key components.
Theyre exempt from the reciprocal tariffs but theyre included in the semiconductor tariffs, which are coming in probably a month or two, Lutnick told ABCs This Week on Sunday.
The Pennsylvania state police said a man is in custody and suspected of setting fire early Sunday morning to the official residence of Gov. Josh Shapiro while he and his family slept. Law enforcement plans to charge the suspect with attempted murder and terrorism.
The suspect was identified by state police Col. Christopher Paris as 38yearold Cody Balmer, of Harrisburg.
Officials said Balmer crept onto the grounds of the governors residence while evading state troopers searching for the source of a breach. He broke in to the residence and started a fire with a home made incendiary device, Lt. Col. George Bivens said.
Balmer is not yet formally charged, but District Attorney Francis Chardo said counts are pending of attempted murder, terrorism, aggravated arson, and aggravated assault are pending.
Today will be one of the warmer April days so far as a warm front lifted through overnight. Temperatures will hold steady in the 60s and eventually recover into the low to mid 70s in the early afternoon. A cold front will eventually push through later this afternoon, but the lack of lowlevel moisture will limit rain and storm development for central Indiana. Look for some increased clouds, though.
The Storm Prediction Center has placed the far southeastern tier of Indiana under a level 1 of 5 risk for an isolated severe storm this evening, but the current setup appears this threat will likely stay east of central Indiana counties. Nonetheless, the cold front will shift our winds back from the west overnight ushering in cooler air.
Temperatures will drop into the low 40s by daybreak Tuesday and with gusty winds up to 35 mph at times tomorrow, afternoon high temperatures will be limited to the mid 50s about 10 below average. It will be a quiet day outside the brisk wind with a mix of sun and clouds.
